Search tool for Protein Motif Analysis
The search can be initiated with atleast one of the following options:
- DNA/Protein sequence
- Protein Name
- protein ID from a Protein Data Bank, such as RCSB.
- GenBank ID from NCBI.
The tool also gives additional flexibility to extend the functionality of the query, such as:
- specify the number of results to display in for the matching proteins list.
- specify the size of motif generated after a protein is chosen from the list mentioned above.
- checkbox to select for all proteins in the database and ignore all filters. This will retrieve over 37,000 proteins.
- checkbox to display only count of the resultant matching proteins list, and no table is displayed..
The search querys the Human Proteins database and returns the list of matching proteins plus a hyperlink to the list of its motifs of the corresponding protein.
The motifs are generated using an incremental sliding window approach, and is searched through the database to produce a list of motifs in descending order. The list comes with its corresponding number of hits in the database, plus a hyperlink to the detailed list of proteins that contains that motif, plus its sequence with the motif highlighted.
